Starlet is a series of low voltage lighting where research into the construction of space satellites is used to investigate the idea of the “almost-flat”. The draped shaping of the skin gives an otherwise “flat” design a graphic fullness.

For this competition Studio giffin'termeer teamed up with Avery Architecture. The competition brief was to re-think strip-malls by re-designing one of three older strip centers in the Phoenix metro area.

Finalists were asked to develop their concept for exhibition. Our exhibition piece mimics the open system of our proposal. Visitors are invited to participate by recombining and arranging magnetic parts such as cars, trees, storefronts, signage, fountain, windmill, even a blimp, to create their own story for this strip mall.
